Curatorial+Co. is delighted to announce the completion of a recent art consultancy project in collaboration with Sydney-based interior design studio, Tom Mark Henry, at Cucina Regina within the new dining precinct at The Star Brisbane. Nostalgic and new all at once, the venue reflects a relaxed yet elevated atmosphere that plays on elements of palazzos and Italian seaside villas. Two large-scale murals by Diana Miller (Bundjalung Country/Byron Bay) and Kate Florence (Gubbi Gubbi Country/Noosa) reference the work of Jean Cocteau through their distinct visual languages, bringing to life the vision and ambience of Cucina Regina, along with a collection of small paintings and ceramic works curated throughout the space.

Abstract painter and shape-maker, Diana Miller, brings her signature exploration of form, colour, and texture to her first ever mural at the restaurant’s bar area. Her practice centres on deconstructing and reassembling shapes and images to produce her unique style of abstraction, expressed through collage, painting, and assemblage. Diana’s mural combines organic and geometric elements through its composition, with fractured forms and bold brushstrokes that create a dynamic interplay of movement and stillness. Diana’s mural maintains a playful yet intentional approach that underpins her practice.

Kate Florence explores the marriage of classical and contemporary aesthetics for the venue’s feature wall. A graduate of Winchester School of Art, Kate has honed her skills in traditional painting during a formative period in Milan. Her work reflects an engagement with ancient Roman architecture, sculpture, and painting, which she reimagines through her contemporary abstract sensibilities.

Her mural combines minimal illustrations with delicate infusions of colour, drawing on Greek mythology and classical European sculpture. The result is an organic, textured artwork that honours the materiality of the wall while playfully reinterpreting historical imagery. Kate’s intuitive, process-driven approach yields an energetic yet sophisticated ambience, speaking to the relaxed charm of Cucina Regina.
